I Got The by Labi Siffre
Check it out. I had never heard of Labi Siffre before this morning. I looked this up for Eminem’s My Name Is but as it turns out, this particular song has been used all over the place. The first 12 seconds are looped in Streets is Watching by Jay-Z. Fast forward to 2:10 and you have the sample in Wu Tang Clan’s Can It Be All So Simple (which also seems to have been sampled at 4:00 in Eminem’s song). Creep forward to 2:31 and you’ve got the sample Dr. Dre used for the chorus of My Name Is. Smaller pieces of the beginning are chopped up for Noreaga’s N.O.R.E. It has also been used in Hotspot by Foxy Brown, Beatnuts Forever by Beanuts, Countdown by Def Squad, I’m Good by Charles Hamilton, and others.
